The 15th National Percussion Workshop in Gdańsk – three days in the fascinating world of rhythm, sound, and music from many cultures! This is one of the most important events in Poland dedicated to education, performance art, and the development of contemporary percussion.

The workshops bring together students, graduates, and teachers from music schools across the country, creating a space for the direct exchange of experiences, the development of artistic and pedagogical skills, and collaboration between music education centers. The artistic director of the workshops is Prof. Piotr Sutt, Ph.D., a soloist, chamber musician, and educator, Head of the Percussion Department at the Grażyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz Academy of Music in Łódź and a teacher at the Primary and Secondary Music Schools in Gdańsk.

This year's edition has a particularly international dimension. Among the invited artists and educators were Prof. Shawn Mativetsky from Canada , a world-class tabla virtuoso and Indian rhythm specialist; Dr. Juan Álamo from Puerto Rico , an outstanding marimbaphonist, composer, and improviser; Pedro Freire from Brazil , a master of the pandeiro and Brazilian percussion instruments; as well as esteemed artists and educators from the Czech Republic - Martin Opršál, Martin Kleibl ; and distinguished representatives of the Polish percussion scene, including Dr. Cezary Konrad , Patrycja Betley , Prof. Piotr Sutt , and Piotr Jóźwiak.

The program combines master classes, practical sessions, methodological workshops, lectures, open lessons, concerts, and instrument demonstrations . Of particular importance is the opportunity to compare Polish teaching methods with the experiences of educators representing various European, Asian, and American musical traditions.

The 15th Workshop aims not only to improve the competences of students and teachers, but also to develop Polish percussion pedagogy, exchange experiences between music schools and academies, and promote young artists, contemporary literature, and new directions in artistic education . The event also demonstrates that contemporary percussion is a space for the encounter of diverse cultures, traditions, and modern technologies—from classical and jazz music, through the traditional rhythms of Asia and the Americas, to improvisation and the use of artificial intelligence in music.
