Tabla in Brazil!

I am honoured and excited to be participating in the upcoming II Festival Internacional de Música – Percussão Contemporânea, taking place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, from August 27 through to August 31. Organized by percussionist extraordinaire, Fernando Rocha, the festival will feature percussionists from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and the USA, in a wide variety of styles. Artists include Aiyun Huang (McGill colleague), Angel Frette (Argentina) , Bantuquerê (Brazil), Duo Ello (Brazil), Meehan-Perkins Duo (USA), Eduardo Campos (Brazil), Fabio Oliveira (Brazil), Fernando Chaib (Brazil), Grupo de Percussão da Fundação Cultural Patagônia (Argentina), Grupo de Percussão da UFMG (Brazil), Hands On’Semble (USA), Márcio Bahia (Brazil), Marimbaia (Brazil), Rafael Leite (Brazil), Rubem Alves (Brazil), Rubens Oliveira (Brazil), and Ted Piltzecker (USA).

I will be presenting a tabla workshop and a solo recital, combining both Indian classical and new music. The programme will include a tabla solo in Teentaal, Bruno Paquet's Les arbres célestes, Tawnie Olson's Something to Say, and Payton MacDonald's 4th Concerto for Tabla and Percussion Quartet, which I'll be performing with the UFMG Percussion Ensemble, directed by Fernando Rocha.
