Last Week in London

Last week, I travelled to London, Ontario to give two masterclasses and a concert at Western University. I was invited by longtime friend and musical collaborator, composer Paul Frehner. Back in 2006, he wrote Ke-Te for me (which appears on my album, Cycles), and I've also played a number of his other compositions, including Oracle, for violin and tabla (which appears on the Attar Projects album, The Road Ahead).

One masterclass was for composition students, and the other for percussion majors. The concert was part of the Friday noon concert series, at von Kuster Hall. I opened the concert with a traditional solo in Teentaal, unaccompanied, followed by Bruno Paquet's Les arbres célestes, Paul Frehner's Ke-Te, and finally, Tawnie Olson's Something to SayThe concert was really well attended; the hall was packed! And, the audience's enthusiasm for both the traditional and contemporary repertoire made this a very enjoyable and memorable concert experience!
